The staff were pleasant, the hotel was clean and tidy and the breakfast was sufficient. Represented good value for money
No food available at 11 pm and no bar service to residents after bar closed to public
Overall, for us for one night, it was fine - cheap(ish) and did the job, in a great location.
Very dated hotel, but maintains a little character. Staff at reception not the friendliest of folk, but at breakfast the staff were pleasant. Room basic but comfortable. Asked for loch view in advance but unfortunately we had the main road to enjoy. Overall, for us for one night, it was fine - cheap(ish) and did the job, in a great location. It would be fair to say that if you are looking for luxury, this is not the hotel for you!
It was not good value for money, a tired old place with Internet that did not work and saggy beds. Tlow budget Eastern block cohe breakfast was not of good quality. It caters for aches/bus tours. The room was nothing like the picture on your web site, sadly.
Breakfast was good
Very poor standard of decor. Whole place, especially corridors smelled of very old cigarettes. Carpets held together by duck tape. Look at least 20 years old. Leaking cistern on toilet with overflowing margerine tub catching drips. 70's decor bar with no real ale, limited coice in every respect
The location was stunning, on the banks of Loch Long. Two friendly pubs very close by
The hotel was shabby but for the budget and after reading previous reviews what I expected. The breakfast wasn't the best in the world but again for the price was ok. They are obviously catering for the masses with coach parties seeming to be the order of the day. The dinner menu looked uninteresting and overpriced but with two lovely pubs close by it wasn't a problem.
Staff polite and positive about complaints.
Food in in the hotel was poor and overpriced.Limitted choice on menu. I returned my main course. For the price I expected more than tinned veg, tasteless fish. Better food to be found within walking distance at the village pub. The whole hotel is worn and in need of tlc. Lumpy mattress in room. Hotel appears to be geared to cheaper coach parties.
Beautiful views and friendly staff, lots of character.
Carpets are worn through and the hotel needs a paint job, but it also lends some character to the place and I would still recommend it.
Very good value and equally as good as other hotels charging twice their price.
The overall impression was of a very tired and dated hotel badly in need of a serious freshen up.Our bedroom despite having a nice view of the loch was very draughty due to the windows being in poor state of repair. Wallpaper was hanging down in several areas of the roof and the worst feature was the very old and obviously well used bed probably the most uncomfortable we have ever tried to sleep in. We were unable to stay for the four nights booked and the only redeeming feature of this was only being charged for two. We also found the breakfast portions rather sparse.
The scenery was the best thing.
The hotel needs a complete revamp the place looked tired and dull. The gardens were untidy. Seeing the all the staff sat outside smoking and drinking didnt look very good either, especially the waiter who came out still in his uniform straight from dinner.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - the value for money was incredible - the breakfast was tasty and although the room was basic the bed was comfortable and the facilities clean and functional - I would certainly recfommend here for a cheap stopover if travelling up north
The corridors were little musty and the exterior was tired but for the money - who cares!
Overall, the stay was pleasant, reasonable value and the food very good in nice surroundings. Staff polite and friendly. Nice view over loch, which I had requested.
Very noisy above the function room when evening entertainment on, til around 2230. Mattress quite lumpy. Some squeaky floorboards. In need of refurb really, quite a tired feel though not unpleasant.
The staff are welcoming very helpful and hard working.
This is hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment and is let down by the Oxford Group. Its stunning location and views should warrant more investment by them.
Helpfulness of the staff and also the beautiful scenery...a great spot for mountain goats like us. super alpine walks and climbs.
THe area, and the breakfast was very good, all staff were very friendly
